New Year's Eve Hispanic Traditions

I seriously believe that every culture has some very interesting ways of welcoming the New Year.  I grew up in a Mexican household in the United States, so I got the best of both worlds. I do have to say, that we have some every fun and creative ways to welcome the New Year:

If you want to start a new tradition this New Year, try starting with one of these:

1. Clean the whole house one or two days before the New Year so that you welcome the new year with a fresh start.

2. Do you want to travel more in the New Year?  Carry a piece of luggage and go around the block once.

3. Do you want good luck every month in the new year?  Make a wish for every grape you eat after the clock strikes midnight.  Make sure you eat 12 grapes (one for every month in a year).

4. Do you want to have a prosperous new year?  Exchange spare change with your family members. Bundle the coins you receive with clear tape and place it on top of a door frame in your home.

5. Do you want to receive love and happiness in the new year?  Wear red or yellow panties that day.

6. Did you have a bad year and want to get rid of the negative energy?  Sweep your front door with a broom and sweep it clean all the way to the street. (If you're in California, make sure you don't cheat and use the water hose, since we are still going through a drought. LOL!)

7. Light up a candle on New Year's Eve. Lighting a green candle will bring you good health while a yellow candle will help your financial troubles. For those looking for some wisdom, an orange candle should be lit while a blue one will bring you peace and a red candle passion or love.

8. Wear white to welcome the new year to set a positive energy, bring you happiness, and inner peace.

I am almost certain that there are way more traditions that I'm missing here but these are the ones that I've known and have followed in the past.  Either way, with traditions or not, I hope that the new year brings you and your family love, health, happiness, and a prosperous new year.  Cheers to you!

I'm looking forward to more blogging in 2017.

Thanks for reading,
Mayra :)

Seeing the light

I'm sure you've heard of stories about other people having near death experiences they encounter when they find themselves in very dangerous situations.  I was watching a program as part of the Super Soul Sunday series of comedian Tracy Morgan talk about the accident that almost took his life about a year and half ago which happened on his drive home after doing a comedy show.  He talks about seeing his deceased father coming to him and telling him that he wasn't ready for him yet.  It made me think of my near death experience I had in high school.

Unanswered Prayers: Explained

When I was younger and naive, I used to pray a lot for the things I wanted and needed in my life.  A few years ago, I met a guy from an online dating site who I was certain he was the one for me. Over the years, I never truly understood why God didn't answer my prayers -- until now. It was very apparent to me that as this guy and I both grew up and live completely different lives; I noticed an overarching theme in his life where in the end, he has no inner peace in his life.  The drama in his life is still there as it was when I first met him many years ago but appear to be present in different ways.
