About Me

Hi, I'm Mayra.  Nice to meet you.  You're reading this page because you want to know more information about who I am and what makes me so awesome.  Am I right?

My hopes for this blog is to do just that! I want you to get to know me.  So, to kick things off--here are five interesting things about me:

1. I was born and raised in California but in all honesty, I don't enjoy the beach and have never been to the mountains in the winter time.  What does snow feel like?

2. My first love in life was the French language.  I took it in high school for three years and fully loved everything about it.  Learning French improved my Spanish, believe it or not!  My second love in life is Psychology, especially the social aspect of psychology.

3. I love the smell of new books but I don't make an effort to read more.  Every year, I make a New Year's resolution to read more or read an X amount of books a year and it never happens.  I'm still reading the same book that I started in 2014.  This book is now a movie and I refuse to see the movie until I finish reading the book.

4.  Music is my life! Everything is more enjoyable with music in the background. I can't function without music.  Listening to music from the summer hits of the 90s in Pandora, to present day English and Spanish songs is what feeds my soul.  It makes me feel comforted and safe. Guess what?  I'm listening to music right now.

5. So, quick story to share with you: When I was in second grade, one of my dreams was to visit the Eiffel Tower in Paris.  Why? I had no idea.  I must have seen a picture in a magazine or maybe my teacher told me about it.  But I told myself that I needed to go. Twenty years later, I accomplished that dream.  Traveling is part of my life now.  Even though I don't have a luxurious career, I save all of my nickels and dimes to travel at least once a year.  It's one of the best things I've ever done for myself.

There you have it!  So, stay tuned to learn more about me through this blog and much more!

Here's to a wonderful journey ahead.

Tootles,
Mayra

  2. Lol totally agree with your number one. Don't ever want to leave California because I'm so close to the mountains and beach here...but hate the sand and rarely get any body part above the ankle wet at the beach...and the last time I went to the mountains was about 10 years ago. Can't wait for your next blog. 😊

New Year's Eve Hispanic Traditions

I seriously believe that every culture has some very interesting ways of welcoming the New Year.  I grew up in a Mexican household in the United States, so I got the best of both worlds. I do have to say, that we have some every fun and creative ways to welcome the New Year:

Seeing the light

I'm sure you've heard of stories about other people having near death experiences they encounter when they find themselves in very dangerous situations.  I was watching a program as part of the Super Soul Sunday series of comedian Tracy Morgan talk about the accident that almost took his life about a year and half ago which happened on his drive home after doing a comedy show.  He talks about seeing his deceased father coming to him and telling him that he wasn't ready for him yet.  It made me think of my near death experience I had in high school.

Unanswered Prayers: Explained

When I was younger and naive, I used to pray a lot for the things I wanted and needed in my life.  A few years ago, I met a guy from an online dating site who I was certain he was the one for me. Over the years, I never truly understood why God didn't answer my prayers -- until now. It was very apparent to me that as this guy and I both grew up and live completely different lives; I noticed an overarching theme in his life where in the end, he has no inner peace in his life.  The drama in his life is still there as it was when I first met him many years ago but appear to be present in different ways.
