One of the things I didn't plan for was all the times I would plateau during my weight loss journey. Other times, this would have discouraged me, but this time is different. I have learned to be patient and stick to my plan. Work out and focus on the positive side of things. I haven't lost weight, but I haven't gained anything either. That's the plus side.
Three weeks ago, I regained five pounds and I almost lost it. I could see it in my belly area and I felt as if I had let myself down. "I can't go backward. I'm in this the whole way!" I told myself. I reviewed all of the foods I was eating and sure enough, it was the popcorn I was eating. I was eating popcorn to trick my brain into thinking I was eating a "healthy" snack. The popcorn was retaining my water so I replaced my popcorn afternoon snack with lactose-free yogurt or cottage cheese. I needed protein instead. My other culprit was snacking on things and forgetting to write them down.
I replaced carbs with healthy greens, controlled the toppings on my salad and stopped eating out during lunchtime. I'm proud to say, that I lost those five pounds and reached my 25-pound weight loss mini goal on October 29, 2017.
One of the things that are keeping me focused and determined are the little rewards I have set for myself for every mini milestone I have reached. My rewards came in at every 5 pounds I lost. Take a look at my breakdown:
First, 5 pounds lost = Reward: A bouquet of flowers
10 pounds lost = Reward: New music for my playlist
15 pounds lost = Reward: New shoes (I got carried away, and I bought 3 pairs)
20 pounds lost = Reward: New haircut/look (I'm getting my new haircut on Dec. 2nd)
25 pounds lost = Reward: Small diamond band ring (I'll be shopping for one very soon)
30 pounds lost = Reward: A cruise trip to Mexico (Trip is planned for Dec. 30th)
People think that exercise is the toughest thing to do, but in reality, it's actually the food part of the weight loss journey that can help or sabotage your progress. All I can say is, being positive, focused, and determined play a huge role in the process. Surround yourself with positive people and read encouraging quotes to help keep you motivated. Learn to read the nutrition labels and stick with the recommended serving sizes.
If you have any other tips, pass them my way. I love learning new ways to help stay healthy and fit.
