Don't forget this item on your next trip

It's an item that majority of us use on a daily basis and for some reason, a lot of people tend to forget when they travel...

Please remember to bring your own pen. Especially when you travel abroad, your pen is an essential item when filling out customs paperwork and other forms.  Even if you travel domestically and your luggage doesn't have a tag, use your pen to fill one out.

I, on the other hand, always have multiple pens in my purse all the time because I've been a student for over half of my life and because my memory isn't that great anymore.  I need to write things down for my own sanity.

So, it really annoyed me on my last flight that people around me were asking to borrow my pen to fill out their passport information on their forms. "Don't people know that they need to fill out paperwork on board?"  The answer is "no."

I've also managed to create a list of other things I travel with that might also be helpful to you on your next trip.  They have saved me a lot of time and hassle when I'm away from home.

1. Sunglasses
2. Hat
3. Sunblock
4. Flip Flops to walk around the hotel room and grounds
5. Tennis shoes for long walks and hikes
6. Activewear to wear around the hotel
7. Zip Lock bags (if you're staying in a hotel with continental breakfast, I use these baggies to pack a snack)
8. Small bill currency for tips (it comes very handy when tipping the server, bellboy, taxi driver, and other people helping you have an amazing and memorial vacation)
9. Plastic bags (to place my shoes in, dirty clothes, or carry items to the pool)
10. Phone and charger (no explanation needed)
11. One roll of toilet paper (keep this item in your carry-on)
12. Pain reliever medicine and stomach medicine
13. Small handbag or crossover bag
14. Makeup removal wipes

Whatever you do, people remember to bring your own pen.

New Year's Eve Hispanic Traditions

I seriously believe that every culture has some very interesting ways of welcoming the New Year.  I grew up in a Mexican household in the United States, so I got the best of both worlds. I do have to say, that we have some every fun and creative ways to welcome the New Year:

Seeing the light

I'm sure you've heard of stories about other people having near death experiences they encounter when they find themselves in very dangerous situations.  I was watching a program as part of the Super Soul Sunday series of comedian Tracy Morgan talk about the accident that almost took his life about a year and half ago which happened on his drive home after doing a comedy show.  He talks about seeing his deceased father coming to him and telling him that he wasn't ready for him yet.  It made me think of my near death experience I had in high school.

Unanswered Prayers: Explained

When I was younger and naive, I used to pray a lot for the things I wanted and needed in my life.  A few years ago, I met a guy from an online dating site who I was certain he was the one for me. Over the years, I never truly understood why God didn't answer my prayers -- until now. It was very apparent to me that as this guy and I both grew up and live completely different lives; I noticed an overarching theme in his life where in the end, he has no inner peace in his life.  The drama in his life is still there as it was when I first met him many years ago but appear to be present in different ways.
