If you were my friend, you would know that I absolutely love to travel. My only regret in this life is not traveling when I was a lot younger. This Earth is so big and yet my goal is to see a lot of it before I perish from this world. I spend a lot of time on Pinterest looking up fun and easy traveling tips and ways to save money when I travel here in the States and abroad.
One of the tips that I picked up a few years ago before touring Europe came from one of my coworkers who suggested I buy post cards in the different cities that I was visiting, write on the back as a journal of the things that I had done that day and mail them home to myself. It was wonderful to see when the postcards arrived and relive that moment in my mind when I read the postcards. Be sure to take colorful pens or markers. This is a great way to force myself to interact with the locals in asking for stamps at their post offices.
Post Cards and Conversations
I'm not much of a collector of anything but I do enjoy buying post cards of the places I've been to and hang them in my classroom. It is a great conversation piece for anyone who is interested in learning more about myself and the places I've visited. What I've discovered is that people either love to travel themselves and we swap stories or people wish they could travel. Either way, they are intrigued.
When in Rome...
When you're visiting a different country, try to eat and drink foods that are only found in that country. One year, my good friend and I went to Australia and New Zealand and we only drank their domestic beers. When we traveled to Eastern Europe the following year, we only ate desserts that were specialties in that particular country we were in at that time.
Capturing the Moment
When you travel, please remember to take a camera or your phone to take pictures. I love to take pictures of the places I visit. I invested in a DSLR camera a few years ago and I find myself using my camera more and more when I travel. Capturing these moments have helped me become a better photographer. The only bad news is that I mostly travel on my own and I'm often found behind the camera. I will try to do a better job of being in front of the camera from now on.
I hope that these tips help trigger your curiosity for traveling. If you've never done it before, I strongly recommend that you travel to at least one foreign country in your lifetime. You will soon realize that the world is amazing and the people are not that much different from you. I can go on and on about how traveling has changed me for the better but that will be for another blog post (coming very soon).

Mayra :)
